Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
Mindfulness is a therapeutic strategy that teaches clients to stay in the present moment using a nonjudgmental stance. It is a beneficial practice for anxiety, depression, and stress in general. While we integrate mindfulness skills into most of our practices, we also offer more specific mindfulness training.
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) is an 8-week group that combines cognitive-behavioural techniques with mindfulness strategies to help individuals understand and manage their thoughts and emotions to achieve relief from feelings of distress. MBCT helps clients learn how to see themselves as separate from their thoughts and moods. It gives participants the necessary tools to combat depressive symptoms as they arise, allowing them to break away from negative thought patterns that can cause a downward spiral into a depressed state.
